Algebra is often the first branch of math that seriously challenges homeschooling families, for it’s often the first area of math parents have either forgotten — or don’t care to recall!

But Algebra is the gateway to all higher math,
and its mastery is critical for college-bound homeschoolers. So what’s a conscientious homeschooling family to do?

Harken to the good news: Algebra need not be scary. It can be fun, delightful, and exciting. And best of all, you can and should start your children thinking algebraically as soon as they are able to count.

In his "Demystifying Algebra" Workshop, Josh Rappaport, author of the "Algebra Survival" books shows parents and children how they can begin their study of algebra early on and continue it successfully through Algebra 2. In this fun and exciting workshop, Josh will:

• Demonstrate and get participants playing fun card games that require algebraic thinking.

• Get everyone engaged with his hands-on approach to positive and negative integers, so that even kindergartners will understand why:
- 2 - 4 = - 6, and + 2 - 7 = - 5.

• Describe the areas of formal Algebra 1 that are toughest, explain why, and show homeschoolers how to avoid the common pitfalls that can be the source of nail-biting frustation.

• Show children how to start and keep a "Mistake Journal," so that instead of dreading making mistakes, they can benefit from them again and again, and

• Demonstratre to everyone how to use a ‘graphing calculator,’ to reveal the benefits that technology now brings to math education.
