LEARNING
STYLES CONFLICT EXAMPLE:
Highly HIGHLY ORGANIZED MOM learns in a SYSTEMATIC,
DISCIPLINED way.
But
her DAUGHTER learns in a more SPONTANEOUS,
HANDS-ON way.
MOM
asks DAUGHTER to study solar system by READING
BOOKS and CREATING neat INFO CHARTS.
DAUGHTER
complains, saying:
"Can't we MAKE something, or DO something?"
Q#1:
Should MOM toss her approach and let her DAUGHTER
do only what she wants?
Q#2:
Should MOM maintain her approach and insist
that her DAUGHTER learn iN the more traditional
way?
Q#3:
Or is there a THIRD WAY?
When
parents aren't aware of learning style differences
- or perhaps they're aware of the differences,
but don't know how to address them - the result
can be irritation, confusion, disappointment,
and hurt feelings - a hornet's nest of problems
that can challenge any family's homeschooling
endeavor.
