Josh Rappaport, author of the Algebra Survival Guide and no stranger to fun, presents a special workshop for homeschoolers on GAMES THAT TEACH MATH SKILLS.

In this fun and engaging session, Josh will show everyone how to play card games that teach essential math skills, and then he’ll get everyone playing the games in small groups.

What makes these card games unique is that they actually teach math concepts. And they give children a chance to explore math concepts and get a feel for how they work.

EXAMPLES:

In ‘Quicksand,’ children learn how to add and subtract, all the while imagining they are on a cliff, trying to avoid falling into the Quicksand Pit below.

In ‘Land Grab,’ children learn how to work with Venn Diagrams, while fantasizing that they are cowboys vying to get the most acres of land at the start of the Open Range.

In ‘Steer on the Loose!’ children learn how to combine positive and negative integers, all the while engaged in a game where the cowboy is trying to catch a runaway steer, and the steer is trying to make it to freedom.

In ‘Cows in the Pen," children learn about the relationship between area and perimeter of rectangles, but they think all they’re doing is trying to build pens that can accommodate the most cows

In "High Five," children learn how to use the process of elimination, and they think that all they’re doing is finding a good partner for the next cattle drive.

Participants in this workshop will build a repertoire of games they can use anytime, anywhere, and they will get special discounts on Singing Turtle’s Card Game Roundup books.
