The
Card Game Roundup Workshop
offers
an exciting opportunity for elementary teachers
to develop new skills in teaching standards-based
math. Best of all, these games teach the new
math standards in a way students and teachers
enjoy — through fun, Wild West card games.
•
In
the Card Game Roundup games, students do NOT
simply perform rote memorization of rules and
procedures, NOR do they just practice previously
attained skills. Instead — in the spirit
of the NCTM standards — students actually
LEARN and EXPLORE IMPORTANT MATH CONCEPTS …
through delightful play.
•
Josh
Rappaport is uniquely qualified to facilitate
this fun and exciting, HANDS-ON WORKSHOP. A
skilled presenter, Josh also leads workshops
for school districts and at NCTM conferences
for his Algebra Survival Guide, and Algebra
Survival Guide Workbook.
•
As
co-author of the Card Game Roundup books, Josh
knows these games inside-out. With that knowledge,
Josh shows teachers how to make the most of
these engaging and stimulating games.

|
In
the Workshop, Josh will:
|
•
Show
teachers how they can meet REQUIRED COMPETENCIES
by having students play the Card Game Roundup
games
•
Demonstrate
how teachers use the games to teach concepts
in ALL FIVE NCTM CONTENT AREAS and in ALL FIVE
PROCESS AREAS in a fun and brand new way.
• Show
teachers how they can use the games as a springboard
for MATH JOURNAL entries or CLASS DISCUSSION
through the "Campfire Chat" discussion
questions that follow every game.
•
Show
how the games allow for DISCOVERY, EXPLORATION,
AND WONDER, making math an experience that COMES
ALIVE for students.
• Get
teachers to play the games, so that they can
go back to their classrooms with the CONFIDENCE
and SKILL needed to make the games an integral
part of their CURRICULUM.
• Every
teacher at the workshop will receive one copy
of either of the Card Game Roundup books …
either the version for K-2, or the one for Grades
3-5.
